[Q2] What will happen after the 2 years are up?
[A2] If you want to continue using the built-in data with your mobile data connection even after two years, you have to update your data plan. We plan to provide updates for 50 euros a year. The detailed procedure regarding how these updates will be carried out has not yet been decided, but we will update the information on our website. Or, you can also freely install your own SIM card (Please note that only SIM cards sold by us are supported). Or, you can also connect to WiFi or your personal hotspot.

Basically and literally it is an Android phone without voice/text feature. This little device is a terminal unit only, there is no built in database or offline dictionary. You speak to it, it converts speech to text, then sends the data to the AI supported translation server. The server returns the result back to you. The device is accurate, fast and responsive most of the time. Sometimes it freezes and you have to restart it all.

Very good gadget but pity one can’t choose between male/female voice. Thus seems a bit odd if one is male and addressing the other party in a female voice. Other limitation is that one cannot export the text once it has been translated (which translation is virually instantaneous). Slightly irritatingly, it does not actually speak all the languages it claims to offer though it handles the text. I am satisfied it understands and deals with French/English very well; I am told by a Chinese friend that it also deals well with simplified and traditional Chinese. BUT apart from these two languages I also wanted to use for Luxembourg/English languages. It presents well translated text in the Luxembourg language but it does not pronounce or speak it. Instructions with the device could be more elaborate but there is an adequate online manual. I have not succeeded in finding a downloadable pdf of the manual but it is a simple gadget to use being largely intuitive. The unit is nicely made with a good quality feel. Camera translation of Chinese characters is a bit haphazard and rather restricted in the length of character strings it can handle. Overall I am pleased with the unit for both its novelty, its practical use and the accuracy of translations. I think its accurancy is a notch up on Google Tranlate but it is limited in length of text……..length entirely appropriate though for conversational purposes. Battery charges hold up well.

Great little device. Played with it for a few days and it seems to work very well. For the price you pay would recommend anyone who likes to travel to get one. You can take a picture of text and it translates straight away. Very easy to use.

We purchased this to out holiday to China and Japan.The live translation was ok, but struggled in noisy environments.It definitely needs to be online, so does not work without the internet.I found it pretty frustrating that it seemed to not be able to hear stuff properly. You would press the button and it would appear to start translating and then show nothing once you released the listen button.When it did work, it was pretty good as long as it could hear well.However, it was extremely good at translating images and pictures. It did this better than Google Translate!

Un (très) petit traducteur à emporter absolument partout !
Je suis amené à parler de nombreuses langues dans mes différents travaux au jour le jour, que ce soit en Anglais, Japonais, Russe, etc. Ce traducteur de poche, littéralement appelé Pocketalk, est annoncé comme supportant l’interprétation de 74 langues !! Je n’ai, forcément, pas pu tout tester tant il y a de choix, mais rien que la tentation de transcrire des jurons français en québécois (ou dans l’une des 5 versions régionales de l’Anglais, voire carrément en Gaélique) est assez dingue.La qualité de fabrication est excellente, avec une coque métallique du plus bel effet (sûrement en aluminium vu le faible poids de l’engin) et un écran confortable. À la première utilisation, l’appareil vous demandant de rentrer un code Wi-Fi (en plus de sa SIM 4G intégrée sans frais supplémentaires), vous remarquerez d’ailleurs que le système tourne sous Android, mais ne semble pas utiliser Google Trad (heureusement, d’ailleurs) ni pour ses traductions, ni pour sa synthèse vocale.Pour traduire, c’est vraiment très simple : pressez l’unique bouton de devant, en ayant préalablement choisi la langue d’origine et celle de destination (le micro intégré peut d’ailleurs le faire pour vous, évitant une recherche parmi toutes les langues), et dites simplement la phrase que vous souhaitez dire dans l’autre langue. Le résultat est quasi instantané, et est directement lu à travers le haut-parleur de l’appareil. Vous ne l’avez pas entendu ? Pressez simplement l’écran tactile, et la synthèse vocale redira la version traduite autant de fois que vous le voudrez, en plus d’afficher le résultat sous forme textuelle, si jamais vous voulez que votre interlocuteur vous confirme bien ce que vous avez voulu dire. Vraiment cool, surtout si vous voyagez !Le Pocketalk est également équipé d’un petit capteur photo, pour traduire des éléments pris en photo. Celui-ci étant cependant assez limité en basse lumière, privilégiez l’utilisation du flash intégré, pour prendre des photos lisibles, qui seront ensuite conservées dans la mémoire interne. Les clichés sont ensuite traduits automatiquement par l’appareil, sans besoin de surligner les zones nécessaires, ni la langue en question. Si votre texte comprend plusieurs langues, la traduction se fera d’ailleurs pour tous les éléments, sans distinction, dans une limite de 55 langues avec cette option. Une autre application intégrée permet également de convertir des unités, que ce soit température, poids, longueur ou devises. Le tout se mettant à jour automatiquement, soit via la 4G, soit par Wi-Fi.Côté connectivité, pas de prise jack, mais un port USB-C unique (le câble est fourni), ainsi qu’un module Bluetooth appairable avec les écouteurs ou enceintes connectées de votre choix. Il y a même un petit trou pour passer un cordon, parfait pour ceux qui aiment customiser avec un strap Square Enix par exemple.Enfin, un jeu de rôle intégré vous proposera de vous plonger directement dans des situations où une langue étrangère est nécessaire, que ce soit en aéroport, à l’hôtel, en déplacement, au restaurant, pour faire du tourisme ou encore du shopping. Une façon ludique d’apprendre, au choix, l’Anglais ou le Chinois (dommage qu’il n’y ait pas de Japonais !).En définitive, le Pocketalk est un appareil vraiment très pratique, qui devrait me servir à la fois au quotidien, tout comme en voyage. Mes compétences étant assez limitées en Japonais, ce petit traducteur devrait notamment me permettre de faire toutes les fins différentes de Catherine sur PS Vita, malheureusement non localisé chez nous, car restant une exclusivité sur l’archipel.Le seul bémol reste son prix : 300€ tout de même ! Cependant, l’appareil étant livré avec un abonnement 4G international d’une durée de deux ans (extensible, ou swappable avec le mode Wi-Fi), cela fait pas mal relativiser quand on sait le prix de recharges en data dans certains pays du monde !Je le recommande donc à tous ceux qui veulent un appareil dédié pour la traduction, tant sa simplicité d’utilisation est juste bluffante, comparé à un Google Trad qui peut parfois être (très) capricieux et de mauvaise qualité d’interprétation.

No se escucha audio en algunos idiomas
Luego de comprarlo en marzo de este año , todo iba muy bien . Traducía de español a Ruso , ucraniano, francés y otros idiomas sin ningún problema ( se escuchaba el audio en ambos sentidos ) de pronto no se escucha cuando hablo en español a otros idiomas . Pero por ejemplo , de español a inglés si funciona correctamente. Puede ser un problema de actualización ?. Hoy lo actualicé a la última actualización. A alguien le sucede lo mismo ?
